Maudslay State Park

Location: Maudslay State Park
Managed by: DCR
Trail: Merrimack River Trail
Date: 7/8/17
Distance: 5.31 miles
Trail Map (Pay attention to the legend... North isn't "up" on this map)

Here's what I set out to do... Versus what I actually did.

Maudslay is beautiful. I definitely recommend heading out there for a hike. However, I'd avoid mapping it out like I attempted to... There are very, very few trail markers, and there was only one short moment on the hike where I actually was sure I was on the trail I intended to be on. Because it was a paved street with a street sign. I'm not actually *that* terrible at following trails. There are a ton of trails in the park that are not on this map, which added to the confusion.
As far as the level of interaction with other people... It was a Saturday afternoon, but it was pouring rain right before I arrived, and right after, so I think that kept most people away.

Summary:

  • Don't try to heavily plan your hike
  • Wear sunscreen (seems mostly forested, but there are a lot of meadows and many of the most beautiful spots where I wanted to spend time are in direct sun)
  • Dog friendly!
  • Parking fee (or DCR annual pass)
